Short Article About Search Engine Introduction

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a subject that bamboozles many people! I know that I was confused myself a few years ago when I began my quest to improve my search engine position.

SEO is a huge subject and it is also one that is ever evolving. Search Engines such as Google and Yahoo are continuously trying to improve the quality of the search results for their customers and in turn this can make it even more confusing for us webmasters!

Although things change frequently in the world of SEO and nobody, apart from a few select Google employees, will ever know for sure exactly how the Google algorithms work, the basics of how to get your site ranked in the search engines remains relatively unchanged as a whole.

I like to think of SEO as a 3 step process: 1. Keyword Research: Choose the best keywords for your site 2. On Site Optimization technology blog: Optimize your site for your chosen keywords 3. Off Site Optimization: Use off-site optimization to improve your search engine position In this post I will explain these 3 steps in simple, easy to understand terms and I will also show you how to easily analyze your competitors and monitor your progress on an ongoing basis.

Before I start I’d like to prove to you that I do actually know what I’m talking about. On the next page you will find a screenshot of a search in Google for the keywords “internet business ideas”.

In this screenshot you can see that my site homebiz-direct.com is in the 1st position for the keywords internet business ideas (ignore the first 2 sites as these are “Sponsored links” i.e. paid listings). You can also see that there are 157 million competing pages, so this is a pretty competitive keyword phrase!
